House League Structure

Our house league teams play in the Simcoe Muskoka Girls Hockey League (SMGHL) which consists of house league teams from Huntsville, Orillia, Barrie, Collingwood and Midland. Teams from age U9 to U18 play 18 games per season (9 home and 9 away) and have one practice per week. Teams travel to 1-2 tournaments per year and participate in our home tournament in January.

The U7/FUNdamentals program for 5-6 year olds is an excellent opportunity for girls to learn hockey skills and grow their love of hockey. They will have 1 practice a week.

The U7 development team have a weekly practice, are invited to our home tournament in January and there is opportunity for this team to travel to an away tournament. This team may have the opportunity to play in several games, depending on the other teams registered within the SMGHL.

We have been chosen to run the NHL/NHLPA First Shift program again this year! The First Shift is open to children ages 6-10*, who have never previously enrolled in minor hockey within Canada or the NHL/NHLPA First Shift program. *To be eligible to participate, children must be born between January 1, 2015 and May 1, 2020.

Competitive League Structure

Our competitive teams compete in the Southern OWHL loop, as set by the OWHL. Previous teams within our loop have included North Bay, Central York, Orillia, Barrie, Collingwood, Orangeville, Midland, New Tecumseth and Georgina. Teams practice approximately 40 times and play approximately 22 games, league playoffs and provincial playdown games. Teams travel to 2-3 tournaments per year and participate in our home tournament in January.

Tryouts for our competitive teams are held in the spring.

Dressing Room Rules

The HGHA abides by all OWHA Dressing Room policies. All teams must have a minimum of 2 dressing room monitors. For age groups U11 and older, only female dressing room monitors are permitted in the dressing rooms. Rostered coaches are permitted once all players are fully dressed. For the U7 and U9 age groups, parents are permitted to assist their players in the dressing rooms.

To learn more about the OWHA dressing room policies please see the links below. If you are interested in volunteering as a dressing room monitor please refer to our team staff registration process.

Cell Phones in Dressing Rooms

Following Hockey Canada and OWHA regulations, absolutely no cell phones or cameras are to be used or visible in any arena change rooms. This rule is applicable to all players, team managers, parents and coaches. One device may be allowed at the discretion of the team coach or manager to play music, and this will need to be arranged prior to entering the dressing room. Consequences will result in failure to comply with this policy.

Schedules

Regular house league practices begin in September and games start in October. Once teams are established you will receive an invitation to join the team on the Ramp Team App. All games and practices will also appear on the website calendar.

Communication

Parents or guardians who need to receive correspondence or be included on the Ramp Team App should be added to your child's registration details. Log into the players registration page with your account details, click on "my family members" on the left side of the page and then edit under your player's name to add additional email addresses.
